The ICC has reached a new low in its morally bankrupt and legally baseless attacks against the Jewish state. Congress must now act to sanction ICC officials.

Today’s decision is a shameful stain on the Court and is a threat not only to Israel but to all democracies.

Israel is our democratic ally fighting on the front lines against our shared enemies. While Israel fights a just war against genocidal terrorists just as any other country would do, its enemies cynically use civilians as human shields to increase international pressure on Israel. Today's outrageous action — the first against a democratic country — rewards the perpetrators, punishes the victim, and sets a dangerous precedent that the Court may again arbitrarily expand its jurisdiction to prosecute Western nations with robust judicial systems like Israel.

Israeli leaders across the political spectrum have denounced this outrageous decision as an attack on Israel itself. Israel has a robust legal system that scrutinizes governmental and military actions and this action by an international court is completely unnecessary.

America's leaders must condemn this action and push back against the ICC's dangerous politically motivated agenda. In the past, the ICC has also targeted the U.S., and today’s decision could set a precedent to be employed against America and other democratic countries.

The Senate must quickly pass the Illegitimate Court Counteraction Act, which the House passed with bipartisan support in June, to sanction those aiding the Court to prosecute Americans or Israelis.
