We applaud President Trump and Secretary Rubio for their tireless work with our ally Israel to broker this ceasefire.

This historic agreement between Israel and Lebanon makes clear that the obstacle to peace unequivocally remains Hezbollah and its backers in Iran. The deal between the two governments further reinforces that the path to genuine peace and reconciliation between the two nations runs through Jerusalem and Beirut, not Tehran.

This deal lays the foundation for a better future for the Israeli and Lebanese people — and for American interests and security in the region. It’s long past time for Israelis to be able to live in peace and for Lebanon to be able to build its own future free from the Iranian regime and its proxies.

For decades, Hezbollah and Iran have brought war and devastation to millions on both sides of the border, including the murder of hundreds of American servicemembers in Beirut. We appreciate the leadership of Republicans and Democrats in Congress who have worked together over decades to ensure the Jewish state had what it needed to protect its families from terrorism and destroy Hezbollah’s capabilities.

We now urge Congress to embrace this agreement and advocate for its full implementation by increasing the pressure on Hezbollah to immediately take the steps outlined in this deal.
