For decades, Iran’s proxy Hezbollah has waged war on Israel and robbed the Lebanese people of the future they deserve, while bringing devastation to both sides of the border—including the murder of hundreds of American servicemembers in Beirut.

Today, Lebanon took a big step toward reclaiming its sovereignty from Hezbollah and living in peace with its Israeli neighbor. We commend President Trump and Secretary Rubio for working with Israel and Lebanon to broker this historic framework agreement.

This step toward peace was made possible by strong American support for Israel. We appreciate the leadership from Democrats and Republicans in Congress over decades to ensure our ally has the resources it needs to protect its families from terrorists. Congress and the administration must work together to continue to stand with our democratic ally Israel and to support the Lebanese government as it takes the necessary actions to disarm Hezbollah and maintain peace and order in southern Lebanon.
