AIPAC Statement on Ceasefire Announcement

April 8, 2026

Over the past several weeks, the United States and Israel have embarked upon a historic campaign to degrade and destroy the offensive capabilities of a regime that relentlessly attacked both nations for the past 47 years. Under President Trump's leadership, and through the courageous actions of American servicemembers—including our 13 fallen heroes—and their Israeli counterparts, the senior leadership of a regime that has terrorized the world and its own people met its just demise.

The joint operation has been a powerful demonstration of the strategic alliance between the United States and Israel, and the value to America of a strong and capable ally like the Jewish state. The integration and coordination between the two militaries has been unprecedented and the result of decades of partnership and collaboration. We applaud the Republican and Democratic leaders in Congress who have helped ensure our ally has the resources to protect its families from the threat posed by Iran and its proxies.

We urge the administration to now use the strengthened leverage it achieved through this operation to secure a deal with Iran that permanently and verifiably ends its nuclear program—including its ability to enrich uranium. Any agreement must also address what remains of Iran’s ballistic missile and drone program, cut off its support for terror groups around the region, and ensure freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. Any sanctions relief for Iran must be contingent on Iran meeting these core requirements. Per the Iran Nuclear Agreement Review Act, any agreement with Iran must be presented to Congress for review.
