Israel Is Working to Relieve the Suffering in Gaza, Surge Aid

June 1, 2026

The Gaza War has had a severe impact on Palestinians in the Strip.

Today, a ceasefire is in place. While Hamas continues to violate the terms by refusing to disarm, the Jewish state continues to surge humanitarian aid into the Gaza Strip to help improve conditions in the territory.

Israel also continues to work closely with international aid and nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) to restore damaged water, electricity, and sewage systems, provide medical supplies and care, and facilitate the entry of essential equipment into Gaza to clear rubble, reopen roads, and rebuild critical infrastructure—including hospitals, schools, and bakeries—previously exploited by Hamas for its terror operations.

The civilians of Gaza deserve full reconstruction of the territory they call home. Board of Peace Director General Nickolay Mladenov has rightfully insisted on the disarmament of Hamas to achieve this. He explained, “You cannot build a future with armed groups running the streets, hiding in tunnels and stockpiling weapons. You cannot deliver reconstruction with militias on every corner.”

In the meantime, notable examples highlighting Israel’s enduring commitment to a wide range of humanitarian efforts include:

Aid Volume and Access:

  • Daily aid truck entries into Gaza have surged to 600, surpassing pre-October 7 levels. Since the start of the October 2025 ceasefire, Israel has facilitated the entry of approximately 90,000 trucks carrying humanitarian aid into Gaza.
  • Meanwhile, reports of Hamas’ interception of aid have dropped sharply; the U.N. Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) noted a decline from roughly 80% before the ceasefire to just 0.5% as of March 2026.

Food Availability and Shelter Services:

  • Israel has facilitated food entry at four times the level estimated by the U.N. as necessary. Since the ceasefire began, more than 1.6 million tons of food have entered the Gaza Strip, including nearly 150,000 tons of flour.
  • Israeli efforts are supporting 209 local kitchens and 33 bakeries, and, with Israeli assistance, the World Food Programme (WFP) is reaching more than 1.6 million people every month with food parcels, hot meals, and bread.
  • Additionally, Israel has facilitated the delivery of more than 650,000 tents and over 70,000 tons of hygiene supplies.
Truck carrying food aid
Israel is facilitating the entry of 600 trucks of aid per day, the majority of which carry food.

Improvements in Water, Fuel, Medical and Critical Infrastructure:

  • Israel has facilitated the delivery of 70,000 cubic meters of water into Gaza each day, including water supplied from pipelines originating in Israel. Israel is constantly responding to requests from the U.N. and NGOs to address water issues. In May, Israel coordinated with Catholic Relief Services the entry to Gaza of 15 large water containers containing a total of 80,000 liters of water and in coordination with UNDP facilitated the entry of 5 new water trucks.
  • More than 11,000 patients have been medically evacuated from Gaza since October 2023, with efforts continuing. For example, on May 4 alone, Israel facilitated the evacuation of 120 patients and escorts to Jordan for treatment.
  • Since the ceasefire began, Israel has facilitated the delivery of more than 12,500 tons of medical equipment, including advanced medical systems, lab equipment, ventilators, generators, and beds.
  • There are 11 institutional hospitals, 12 field hospitals, 4 major clinics, and dozens of primary care centers operational in Gaza. Israel is also moving forward with a major expansion of the Red Cross field hospital in Gaza to significantly bolster medical infrastructure.
  • Israel has also helped coordinate a vaccination campaign to prevent the outbreak of disease, ensuring children under three receive essential immunizations, including BCG, MMR, and Pentavalent vaccinations. More than 35,000 Gazan children have been vaccinated through these efforts.
  • To stop the spread of disease, in April and May, Israel facilitated the delivery of more than 47,000 units of targeted pest control equipment, with a focus on rodent mitigation and insect prevention.

The Way Forward

The United States must continue to support Israel’s efforts to end the threat from Hamas while ensuring Palestinians receive the humanitarian assistance they need.

Disarming Hamas and removing the terror group from power is the only way to ensure a better future for the people of Gaza while keeping Israelis safe.

The United States must ensure aid to Gazans is delivered by transparent and reliable partners so that it reaches intended recipients and is not diverted or stolen by terrorist groups.
