Acting Under Secretary for Arms Control and International Security Rose Gottemoeller stressed America’s “grave concerns” about such nuclear proliferators as Iran and Syria in an address to Israeli military and academic leaders in Tel Aviv.
Speaking at the Institute for National Security Studies on Feb. 12, Gottemoeller said Iranian and Syrian “transgressions threaten international security…[and] stand directly in the way of our shared disarmament goals.”
Regarding Iran, Gottemoeller emphasized that Tehran’s continued violations of the Nonproliferation Treaty (NPT) are intolerable. “NPT rules must be binding and there must be consequences for those who break them,” she said.
