IAEA Director General Urges Iran to Cooperate on Nuclear Issue

The International Atomic Energy Agency can’t be sure Iran is developing nuclear technology solely for peaceful means, Director General Yukiya Amano said in a speech Thursday, October 4, and urged Tehran to cooperate with its inspectors, The Wall Street Journal reported. “We have not been able to produce any concrete results so far. As Iran did not cooperate fully with the IAEA, we cannot provide credible assurance that all material in Iran is for peaceful activity.” Amano is at the center of diplomatic efforts to curtail Iran’s nuclear ambitions. His agency is investigating charges that Iran is seeking to produce nuclear weapons. Last month, the IAEA said in a report that it has become “increasingly concerned” about possible undisclosed nuclear-related activities linked to developing a nuclear payload for a missile.
