President Ronald Reagan discusses American policy regarding the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, declaring that the United States will support neither the establishment of an independent Palestinian state in the West Bank and Gaza nor Israel’s annexation of the territories.  Reagan says, “[S]elf-government by the Palestinians of the West Bank and Gaza in association with Jordan offers the best chance for a durable, just and lasting peace.”  Reagan also notes, “America’s commitment to the security of Israel is ironclad.  And I might add, so is mine.”
