Secretary of Defense Caspar Weinberger and Israeli Minister of Defense Ariel Sharon sign a memorandum of understanding that stresses the need to work closely together to deter all threats from the Soviet Union to the Middle East.  The two countries agree to cooperate militarily and in research and development.
